Debt settlement companies “claim” they can do “the same job for lower fees.” The truth is, they can’t. Many large creditors will not deal with debt settlement companies. They will only deal with attorneys. This means debt settlement companies cannot offer you a comprehensive solution as they will not be able to settle all of your accounts, leaving you on your own to deal with them.
Some crafty debt settlement companies tried to go around this issue by having Clients settle their own accounts with their “guidance.” That means the Client did all the work, and the debt settlement company still got paid. How does that make sense? It doesn’t. The Courts didn’t think so either. One of the largest debt settlement companies in the United States actually got into a lot of trouble for doing just that!
